About decor8

decor8 is a quick fix for design addicts who love decorating their homes but find it challenging to shop online. Your time is important, so that's why I (founder/editor Holly Becker) scour dozens of resources for the latest tips and trends so you don't have to. Then, I sift through it all extracting only what I strongly favor, posting it here on my blog.
What's my style? I love to mix things up and have fun. I lean towards modern with clean lines, but layer in vintage modern and flea market finds so my rooms have depth of character and loads of warmth and color. I usually design around a neutral base, adding in color through textiles, rugs, wallpaper, art, and accessories. A little bohemian and a lot modern.
What does decor8 feature? In addition to product and store reviews, decor8 features a steady dose of designer interviews, indie goodies, budget finds, event news for Boston and beyond, art, design tips, discounts to your favorite stores (I work with stores directly and extend discounts to my readers), contests, and an extensive shopping guide (right column). That way, if you're about to travel within North America or Europe you can locate the stores I suggest visiting listed in the right column by city.
Do you have decorating questions? Looking for a specific product? Send your letters to decor8blog AT yahoo DOT com and I may select it to post on decor8 with my professional opinion along with the help of our readers (17,000 daily) who may comment and offer you some suggestions, too.
What about submissions? If you would like to submit a product to decor8, please email it to decor8blog AT yahoo DOT com with the title SUBMISSION. I try to reply to all submissions so if you don't hear back from me right away that means I may not be interested in writing about your product at this time so please feel free to contact me again in the future. Please include product information, links, and full color photos of your work (no more than 5). You may also send me your submissions through the mail, however since I receive so many I cannot return samples. My address is:

So, gather 'round your monitors, it's time for inspiration and fresh finds, from sofas to stationery!
Please note: decor8 does not claim to be 'the source' for all design; beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I write about what suits my personal taste. If you find something on decor8, I would appreciate it if you'd note the source and link back to the post if you write about it on your blog/website. With a bevy of design blogs out there, many receive the same updates from companies, so there is bound to be overlap. However, I am an interior design consultant with experience in the industry, as well as a freelance design writer that spends hours researching and testing products for articles that I write for publications, so I bring my background and experiences, along with my own unique perspective, when I review products on decor8.

Hi Holly! We spoke a couple months ago as a fan of your blog and soon-to-be-Atlantan. I have a design question I was hoping you could help me with, with images. Also, do you recommend any interior designers in Atlanta? Thank you!! Hannah Huffines

Hello There!
My name's Mary Follett, and after completing a degree in Fine Art Printmaking at the University of Falmouth (UK), i have been travelling and am now in Sydney, looking for work.
I was looking at your beautiful website, and thought i would email to see if you, by any chance, have any contacts/links in the pattern and printmaking world over here? I have been searching, but it is proving to be difficult, finding out whereabouts it's all happening!
If you have any information, i would be very grateful, thank-you for your time.
Yours, Mary Follett

Hello,
I love your site.
Currently, I work for an organic cleaning service (www.greenhouseecocleaning.com) and I would love for us to advertise on your site.
How would I go about this?
Cheers!
Hey Holly
I came across a link to your site from The Kitchen Designer, I design and build specialty products like bars, libraries, mantels and all sorts of woodworking for the home. I’m not much on designing anything else but, I do enjoy picking up tips from professionals like yourself, It helps me impress my wife.
Great site! I’ll be back
I just found the wonderful write-up you posted on your blog about my Etsy shop and my work.
Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by "Another artist I'd book"?
In response to your questions of what I think as I face a blank sheet of paper I would have to say, very little. I try never to fuss over my work and let accidents happen. I like to dive right in with the first mark or the first placement of an image and go from there. The only time I start to fuss is when a piece is nearly finished and I'm trying to decide what final touch it needs. That's usually the hardest part.
Otherwise I just make what I think is pleasing to the eye. I think imperfections are an important part of that as well as a sense of fantasy and imagination.
Oh, and I'm a guy.
Thanks again for the kind, kind words.

Larrison: If I had a store or gallery, you'd be someone that I'd feature in my rotating art space - that was what I meant. :) Thank you for stopping by.
Hey there love your site and the look of it! I love the idea of sharing creative ideas and thing this way. I wanted to let you know about an art online auction. go to www.ivettevallejo.com for details. I am an artist and am holding an auction to raise art funds. The selling site is ivettevallejo.esty.com.
